High School Credit
Learning in Alpharetta Tamil School
Introduction
Alpharetta Tamil School is an approved school accredited with Georgia Accrediting Commission (GAC). Students studying Tamil at ATS can earn one (1) full high school academic credit in both Fulton and Forsyth counties in the State of Georgia.
By earning one credit, the student would fulfill part of his/her graduation requirement for the high school. The student has the option to skip one year of world language study at high school, if he/she wants to do other elective courses instead. However, it is recommended to continue taking offered world languages (Spanish, Latin etc.) for 3 years at student’s HS.
Colleges require 2-4 years of World language learning in high school. All private universities recommend 4 years of World language learning. In addition, having multiple languages in transcript helps the student in their college admission as Tamil can be considered as a rigor course.
Requirements to earn a High School Credit
The student needs to study 4 years, at ATS, continuously from 5th grade to 8th grade. It is a must to have the final score added to student’s transcript from those 4 years. No grade skipping is allowed. ATS issues a transcript in a sealed envelope when the student gets graduated after 8th grade highlighting ALL four years of his/her marks. To earn HS credit for Tamil, the student should earn a minimum of C-grade (above 70 marks) in all 4 years.
Academic Credit from Forsyth County Schools
In Forsyth county, the awarded one (1) full high school credit is an elective credit, can be used towards the 3 units of CTAE/Modern Language/Latin/Fine Arts requirement or 4 units of Elective requirement for high school graduation.
In addition to this credit, students need to study another world language for a minimum of two subsequent years to get themselves graduated from high school. (Although it is recommended to take continuous 3 years of another world language such as Spanish, offered at student’s HS).
