About Alpharetta Tamil School

Welcome to ATS – Alpharetta Tamil School. ATS is a language teaching school to teach Tamil language and to promote Tamil culture. ATS is following International Tamil Academy(ITA) syllabus.

The school is accredited by “Georgia Accrediting Commission (GAC)“. *Latest Certificate*

Graduating students can earn one high school credit at any high school in Forsyth County.

To teach the Tamil language and to promote Tamil culture.

Mission

To provide Tamil education in a very professional setting and in a positive environment. In addition to teaching the Tamil language, our mission is to provide opportunities to learn and participate in events related to the rich Tamil culture and arts.

Goals

  • Teaching the Tamil language to children, youth, and adults in a school setting.
  • Making the students to read, write and converse in Tamil at the intermediate proficiency level.
  • Providing an opportunity to experience the culture and traditions of Tamil.
  • Creating a pathway to earn an academic language credit for learning Tamil.
  • Enable children to speak fluently in Tamil.
  • Help children to read and write well in Tamil.
  • Ensure that our Tamil language and Tamil culture pass on to successive generations.
  • Learn Tamil culture along with the language.

School History

ATS was started as a Chinmaya mission of Alpharetta’s Language enrichment program in 2002. Ms.Sundari Kumar and Ms.Radhika Valmiki coordinated with Balvihar and started the Tamil language class as one of Balvihar’s enrichment program at Kids R Kids in year 2002-2003. There were only 5 kids when they started this program. Ms.Narmadha Jegannathan and Thiru. Govind Kuppusamy joined this program little later and helped to enrich this program.

This program was using both Singapore and Tamil Nadu syllabus till 2008 academic year. In year 2009, we started following the syllabus of International Tamil Academy.
